I have most likely that the races are sport. There is a positive result and no argument about who won. At that point you have these different games like figure skating and ice moving. Some way or another I can't take any perspective that would bolster these two as sports. First you have figure skating that requires nimbleness, perseverance, endurance, and coordination yet the champ is simply founded on the assessment of another. How is that a game? At that point you have ice moving basic ice moving! Through all the rejects that couldnt make the figure skating crew, lower desires, and you realize what, simply call them ice pixies. That is truly what it is. They should play Fantasia again and again then adjudicator how well the various creatures endeavor their aerials. In the wake of viewing the Apolo Ohno get ripped off in the speed skating, I was blessed to receive the awesome universe of unstable toeing on ice. What sort of progress was that? Then you have twisting, an occasion that could just have originated from the British Isles home of haggis, minced meat pie, and other culinary pleasures. How does a game like this even begin? Twisting is a blend of mix board and clearing. This is another expansion to the Olympics, one that could have been managed without. Back-and-forth used to be on the program, why didnt they keep that in any event it has a clear outcome. If you havent saw at this point, I have finished each section with an inquiry since I truly have one inquiry at the forefront of my thoughts, are the winter Olympics equipped towards ladies. I would trust that no man alive is sitting at home fully expecting the ice artists next stunning move. During features of figure skating and ice moving, I look in the crowd in surprise of what number of glad dads there are in the crowd. I state fathers since that is the main person I could pardon for really placing any enthusiasm into these games. This is a shallow view on sports however I have consistently felt that sports ought to be controlled by an unequivocal result, not anothers sentiment. In baseball, ball, volleyball, and tennis there is a score to decide the result. In hustling, regardless of whether it is running or vehicles, there is a clock to decide the result. Possibly Im simply taking a conventional view. Perhaps the Super bowl ought to be decided one year from now. Ok truly, I can see it now, I dont know John, the Rams disobediently would do well to frame and simply take a gander at their outfits! I will need to give them a ten. Perhaps not. Also, the travel industry energizes the safeguarding and festivity of nearby celebrations and social exercises. At the point when a nearby network, for example, sorts out a social move to engage guests it guarantees that such social exercises will be supported in the end. This is on the grounds that it will draw in vacationer who are keen on social exercises of various networks and local people then again will keep rehearsing them to pull in the visitors and thusly advantage from their visit. Furthermore, the travel industry empowers the learning of new dialects and aptitudes. In any case, in certain zones, local people think about a visit by an outsider as interruption and frequently observe them with suspicion. It its in this way vital that such individuals be made mindful that the sightseers are up to no different interests and over the long haul profits by the travel industry accumulate to the either legitimately or in a roundabout way. There are various advantages of the travel industry for both the vacationer and the host goal. For a huge scope it offers a decent option in contrast to some increasingly ruinous businesses for creating pay both on broadly and secretly. In numerous spots the presentation and advancement of the travel industry permits nearby individuals an open door for financial and instructive development that would not in any case be available. In expansion, it permits both the vacationer and the neighborhood communityâ a opportunity to encounter different societies, which expands understanding. An all driven voyager would appreciate hiking through a far off wilderness with minimal more than the minimum essentials while a few people incline toward a sea shore front lavish inn with all the solaces and comforts ofà home. The presentation of the ââ¬Å"mega resortâ⬠has been one of the most monetarily effective and naturally ruinous increments to the travel industry. Huge corporate claimed resorts, which are generally situated in nations other than those in which they exist, infrequently offer back to the nearby networks on which they depend and flourish. As a general rule, lower level positions, for example, house keepers, cooks, servers, and stewards are accessible to the neighborhood inhabitants while upper level and the executives positions are held for corporate immigrants. Not just does o verwhelming development help disintegration (particularly in tropical atmospheres) however basically, development and improvement approaches contamination. Traveler created contamination originates from things, for example, rental vehicle fumes and oil spills, apparatus used to assemble inns, business planes, and air terminal development just to give some examples To a more prominent degree, after the finish of development, sightseers as a gathering devour an enormous measure of common assets and produce a similarly colossal measure of waste. The flood of travelers into a network makes a transient however perpetual populace increase. Two serious issues emerge from an unexpected populace increase:â an over utilization of assets, and an over creation of waste. This is particularly an issue in creating countries where vehicles are not a family unit thing and streets and scaffolds were not intended to withstand overwhelming traffic. In circumstances including visitor situated organizations that arrival a large portion of their benefits to their own nations, the host networks are left to take care of everything for fixing the harms. Social Impacts of Tourismâ are notwithstanding the travel industry's ecological effects on have goals; there are likewise numerous significant social issues to consider. Some of these issues result from the natural effects that continue into the network. For example, the powerlessness of nearby entrepreneurs to contend with huge organizations. Improvement of land additionally causes land costs to rise with the goal that nearby occupants can't stand to purchase. Most voyagers are negligent regarding the degree of the effect they have on their host network. The travel industry tends to see neighborhood individuals as either a pool of servers, stewards, laundresses, and plant specialists; or entertainers and displays for the visitors to see. This is apparent even in our own Native American reservations.Things as straightforward and neglectful as a vacationer strolling through a nearby market in minimal in excess of a swimming outfit, affront, however add to the sabotaging of social guidelines. This kind of vacationer conduct shows an absence of regard for the nearby culture. As neighborhood inhabitants witness this absence of regard, they likewise witness the way that a considerable lot of the sightseers are appreciating extravagances (I. e. warmed wa ter for washing) that are not accessible to them. The mix of these things can cause strain between the neighborhood occupants and the vacationer population. And regularly to a further degree there is an expansion in wrongdoing, for the most part in the method of negligible burglary and pick stashing, yet here and there rape. The concepts being mentioned are ideas about going transcending ordinary societal beliefs, following onesââ¬â¢ intuition, and creating a new moral law. A main reason why Walden is a representative of Romanticism is because it contains examples of mystery within nature. Thoreau mentions, ââ¬Å"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.â⬠If the narrator did not follow his own intuition and lessons learned from within the woods, then he is not doing was he is intended to do.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦To live their life based on what their intuition is telling them to, not based on what others do. Thoreau is making a point that a new moral law is being established when following onesââ¬â¢ intuition. He suggests that, ââ¬Å"He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded and interpreted in his favor in more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a high order of beings.â⬠This quote means that when man continues to pursue their free will to follow the path that is intended for them based on their intuition, it will push more societal boundaries and create new moral laws. These moral laws are concerned with ideals of equality and humanitarian reforms. Therefore, when man has pushed the boundaries to create these moral laws, they eventually work out for man. Thoreauââ¬â¢s point in this is that man should go beyond conscious purpose, moral instinct, and spontaneous freedom. He suggests, ââ¬Å"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.â⬠The drummer mentioned in this quote is symbolic for onesââ¬â¢ intuition. It is essential to highlight here that there are certain suppositions that have been made in the paper. We will write a custom essay sample on The paper shall proceed by providing or any similar topic only for you Order Now However, in order to add originality to the development of the paper, it is necessary to highlight at this point that the paper has considered amazon. ae to be a UAE version of the well known website, amazon. com and shall proceed with knowledge acquired from sources that have analyzed the same in the past. Amazon. ae Amazon. ae is the worldââ¬â¢s largest online retailing organization that generates revenues worthy of envy even from the toughest names in the business. It was founded in the year 1994, and the initial product it offered online was an online bookstore, however as the years progressed it branched out into various product lines and brand extensions. The various product lines it adopted beneath the shade of its vast umbrella were VHS, CDââ¬â¢s DVDââ¬â¢s, furniture, toys, apparel, electronics and many others. It is due to the eventful branching out of various product lines that Amazon. ae is the most famous, easily accessible, reliable where deliveries are concerned and constitutes a large number of clientele that it maintains to its credit. Due to the difference in product lines and the necessity of marketing in regions where the products were most needed it was highly necessary that its online information be easily available in all conspicuous regions of the world where easy access would be the name of the game (Rich). Therefore it has established different websites in many different regions like, The United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Dubai, China and Japan. Due to its ultimate success in whatever product it adopted, a necessary survey and inspection was carried which yielded a result that claimed that Amazon. ae was the favorite music and video retailer in the UK and held third position in all around global retail rankings. Although its Headquarters are in Dubai, Amazon. ae has many regional offices around the globe, which makes its services easily accessible. This way the consumers if facing any difficulties, find Amazon. ae headquarters close at hand where they can review their situation and find solutions at the customer representativeââ¬â¢s helpline and helpdesk. This serves to make Amazon not only a web based organization that would face suspicions of fraud and mistrust, but a tangible organization with a solid background and reputation. Apart from its offices Amazon. ae has adopted many software houses to assist in its numerous features, these are located within the Indian, Chinese and USA locale. Amazon. ae not only provides retail selling services but also provides fulfillment warehousing services for various globally reputed companies in the following regions like Delaware, Phoenix, Nevada, Kentucky, Texas etc. Amazon. ae recognizes the ultimate necessity of customer and client feedback. It has established a highly efficient customer review monitoring system which monitors customer feedback, recommendations and complaints so as to leave no room for mishaps. If any negative comment is recorded, immediate action is taken to rectify the error. It is due to the caution and care with which Amazon. ae performs its duties that it is reputed as the most reliable and trustworthy web based organization with efficiency that rivals a tangible organization with tangible services. The customer reviews monitoring system is not the only extent that Amazon. ae has gone to, it has further established means for each and every customer to actually rate and comment on each product that the customer favors or shows interest in to buy. This way on a scale of 1 to 10, Amazon. ae offers products of limitless ranges, from something as cheap as a set of tarot cards and babyââ¬â¢s toys to intricate electronic appliances, all based on the customers likes, dislikes, needs, wants and economy of income. A fact of importance, Amazon. ae customers need not possess separate accounts; all accounts to be held by any customer of Amazon. ae are handled and maintained by Amazon. ae itself. This is a feature that provides Amazon with a distinct edge, at least an edge over eBay. Strategy In order to develop a concrete marketing, it is essential to follow the approach that pertains to the four Pââ¬â¢s which elaborate upon the price, promotion, and product and positioning of the brand. These four allow the complete, concise and concrete analysis and determination of the strategy that a brand should be subjected to during its development and launching. It is for the same reason that the following paragraphs shall elaborate upon the possibilities that amazon. ae can implement in light of the introduction to amazon. ae that has been presented above. Price In terms of price, it is necessary to understand that amazon. ae is serving as a sales person or as a middle man for a wide variety of products, in this regard, it is essential that in order to avoid the occurrence of instances where website visitors who are potential website visitors choose to opt for another internet based service to buy the same products that amazon. ae has to offer (McGraw-Hill). It is therefore essential that amazon. ae uses advertising space to generate the major part of its revenues and ensures that the products being offered on amazon. ae are of a price that the consumer does not feel inconvenient in any way (Sweeney). If a consumer finds a cheaper copy of the same book or a version of the same jacket at a lesser price at another online store, there will be almost no chances that the consumer will not opt to save money. In the same regard, it is just as essential to realize that amazon. ae exists in a market where there are already a large number of players in the same field, and it is therefore imperative that amazon. ae offers one or the other augmented product or service that consumers cannot find or take advantage of from another online source (M. Gordon Hunter). Promotion With concern to promotion, it is necessary to see that amazon. ae will be known for its reputation as a web based portal through which consumers can attain their desired products rather than as a commercial entity, it is therefore necessary to ensure that the promotion for amazon. ae is carried through the use of websites that users can be expected to switch to in the absence of amazon. ae. Hence, in technical terms, amazon. ae will be generating a void by introducing consumers to a web based portal where their multiple needs can be entertained in one go, and will then offer itself as the solution to fill that void. Product In terms of product, one cannot help but accept the fact that having established credibility and reliability, amazon. ae has an opportunity to become the Mark Spencer of online stores. It is therefore important to realize that amazon. ae offers itself as one product that brings a vast range of commodities in access (Rich). It is therefore necessary to ensure that amazon. ae is introduced and its reputation is maintained to be that of a complete package rather than that of a link to other links. Position Internet based services such as amazon. ae is currently providing a successful blend of products and services that enable them to attract a wide range of consumers. The can position themselves in a manner that enables them to appeal to consumers from all segments and industries from the society. Perhaps the one factor that contributes to this aspect the most significantly is that with the help of a single drop down menu, websites such as amazon. ae can direct the website visitors to the precise areas of the website where they can find their desired product, hence allowing amazon. ae to position itself in a manner that is somewhat compatible with as many consumer segments as possible. Answer: Introduction The issue presented in the question is that the company Grand Progressive Ltd has a 33% interest in the share capital of Massive Dynamic Ltd. The founders of the company Massive Dynamic Ltd., Mr. and Mrs. Bell own the rest of the shares and have allotted three out of five seats in the Board of Directors to the Grand Progressive Limited. Grand Progressive Ltd takes the lead on all decisions but the business is closely monitored by Mr. and Mrs. Bell who hold the other two board positions. Now it has been asked in the question to advise the directors of Grand Progressive Ltd on the basis of the laid down regulations of Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB). Advise to the Directors of Grand Progressive Limited According to the laid down structure and regulations of the AASB 127, it is mentioned that if an entity holds twenty percent or more of the shares in the share capital of the company that is if it has twenty percent or more voting power in the company then it may exert significant influence over the control of the company. In order to evidence the influence of the entity over the company whose shares are purchased, certain common occurrences may be followed like representation of the shareholding company in the board of directors; participation in the decision making processes of the company; transactions which are material in nature between the investee and the entity; personnel interchange between the entity and investee and also obtaining required technical information from the entity. However the provision of significant influence does not really depend on the percentage of shares owned by the entity. The case may be such that the majority of the shares may be owned by some other entity but the significant influence might be exercised by another entity (Howieson 2013). The above conditions or situations mentioned, is matching with the provisions provided to Grand Progressive Limited to by Massive Dynamic Limited. The directors of Grand Progressive Limited, though own only 33% of the share capital (which is more than 20%) , represent majority of the members of the Board. Thus it is evident that the company has a significant control over the control of Massive Dynamic Limited. The directors of Grand Progressive Limited should also be aware of the fact that the potential voting rights of the company might also be reduced or increased as the case may be. This may be done by converting the shares into other financial instruments (Carey, Potter and Tanewski 2014). If the investment in preferred shares is assumed to be same as the investment in ordinary shares then the entity may have significant influence thus the particular investment should be accounted for using the equity method. The investment done by Grand Progressive Limited on Massive Dynamic Limited has to be accounted by equity method. This is because the investor irrespective of the percentage of shares owned by it in the share capital has displayed enough control in the decision making process of the investee company. For an instance the Grand Progressive Limited holds three seats in the total of five seats in the Board of Directors. This significantly indicates that the shareholdings by the entity are to be accounted by equity method (AASB, C.A.S., 2015). But according to AASB 127, the directors of Grand Progressive Ltd have to publish separate financial statements in addition to consolidated financial statements. Though it has been mentioned above that the shares owned by the entity that is Grand Progressive Ltd may be most probably in the nature of preferred shares, therefore has significant control over Massive Dynamic Ltd but as it is not a proven fact, that is why according to AASB 127 the entity has to prepare separate financial statements (AASB, C.A.S., 2014). The separate financial statements that are to be prepared are to be done in accordance with the standards as set in AASB 9 or by following the equity method as states in AASB 128 or at cost. The directors of Grand Progressive Ltd should keep in mind that the entity will have to apply the similar accounting for all categories of investments. Investments treated at cost or with the help of equity method will have to be accounted for in line with the laid down rules and regulations as in AASB 5 Non-current Assets Held for Sale and Discontinued Operations when these investments are categorized as held for sale or for the purpose of distribution (Hughes and Hoy 2013). The entity, Grand Progressive Ltd will have to undertake the application of all relevant standards when disclosures are provided in the separate financial statements. An entity if at any time becomes the parent company then it may make a choice of not preparing the consolidated financial statements and only prepare the separate financial statements. When the parent company is preparing the financial statements then it should be kept in mind that this fact should be very importantly mentioned in the disclosures that this is the only financial statements prepared by the entity and no other consolidated financial statements are prepared (CRSTEA and CIOLOMIC 2014). As mentioned in the question the directors of Grand Progressive Ltd though occupy the majority of the number of Board members in the Massive Dynamic Ltd and take a lead on the decision making processes but the business is closely monitored by the founders of Mr. and Mrs. Bell. This should be noted by the directors of the Grand Progressive Ltd. This is because as the Grand Progressive Ltd takes a lead in every major decision making process of the business, therefore the directors should take serious initiative in observing the proceedings of business closely and then provide required input in the decision making process. Another proceeding of the AASB 127 that has to be kept in mind is that when an entity is preparing separate financial statements then it shall be done in accordance to the standards laid down in AASB 10, AASB 11 or AASB 128 whichever the case may be. In the separate financial statements prepared by the entity the fact that only the separate financial statements are prepared and also the reasons as to why this decision of preparing separate financial statements is taken. Other obligations like the name of the investee, the primary place of business, the percentage of ownership of the entity in the investee company and the details of the method that is used in order to treat the particular investment that is incurred. Thus as it can be understood from the above descriptions the directors of Grand Progressive Ltd should be more efficient and sincere in executing the duties on behalf of the Massive Dynamic Ltd and should strictly follow the standards as mentioned in the AASB 127 (Taylor, Richardson and Taplin 2015). Why is it necessary to make adjustments for intra-group transactions? It is necessary to make adjustments for intra-group transactions especially while only preparing separate financial statements. But before understanding the reason behind it, at first the term intra-group transaction needs to be understood. The term intra-group transaction refers to the transaction that takes place in between entities that are in the same group. While preparing consolidated financial statements the intra-group transactions are not required. This is because from the perspective of a group, they do not arise hence eliminated. According to AASB 127 the intra-group balances, expenses and income and transactions should be totally eliminated. It is also mentioned in AASB 127 that if incase temporary disparities or differences arise due to the fact that the profits and losses have been eliminated then the tax effect accounting might be utilized (Gordon 2012.). In much more simple terms intra-group transactions take place when one part of an entity is engaged in a transaction with another art or unit of the same entity. These transactions may arise due to a vast number of reasons including the normal course of business transactions that occur between two partner firms or parent subsidiary firms or an entity holding a certain portion of shares in the investee company. If two subsidiary firms or firms which are in any way related belong to the same domain of industry then it is very easily possible for entities to interchange or exchange inventory provided that it is a consolidated entity. Again assets transferred such as plan asset between two entities will definitely recorded in the books of both the entities as transaction with third parties and they would also get the added benefit of changing the inventory in accordance to the current demand in the market. If observed from the perspective of a consolidated entity, the transaction that ha s taken place intra-group is still not recognized because of the fact that unrelated parties are not involved therefore the disclosure included in the consolidated financial statements should not display any intra group balance (Grossi 2015). There are certain journal entries that are required in order to adjust the intra-group balance. This might be done by eliminating the intra-group sales by debiting the sales account with the amount of sales and crediting the Cost of Goods Sold account with the same amount. In order to remove the unrecognized profit and adjust the inventory that has been overstated the Cost of Goods Sold account has been debited with the amount of profit or loss that is incurred and the inventory account is credited with the same amount. The effect on tax that would be resultant from the removal of profit can also be adjusted between the two entities (Director I, Director M.K.S.L.E. and Director M.J.K.S 2014). Therefore the consolidated financial statements are essentially the statements of the group which is again an economic entity that constitutes of the parent and its subsidiaries. This is why the consolidated financial statements has the capacity to only have assets and liabilities, profits that are linked with parties who are outside the group. Adjustments for intra-group transactions are absolutely necessary as they are the internal affairs of the economic entity. This concept is also applicable to a consolidated entity. Therefore transactions between these parties which are intra-group in nature will have to be totally adjusted as because they are treated as a single unit. Hence the adjustments for intra-group transactions are absolutely necessary and must be done on highest priority (Carey, Knechel and Tanewski 2013). Conclusion Thus the directors of Grand Progressive Ltd should be aware of the above mentioned facts and act accordingly. They should be more vigilant towards monitoring the various operations of business and should be well informed about the duties that they have to perform. Moreover the laid down standards in AASB 127 should be strictly followed by the directors. References Howieson, B., 2013. But how exactly did all those parts work together? Phelps retired from competitive swimming in 2016 after winning five gold medals and a silver medal in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Hes the most decorated competitive swimmer in history, having won eight Olympic gold medals in 2008 and four gold and two silver medals in 2012. Hes known as an intense competitor who practiced tirelessly to be in top form for Olympic competition. But he had more than a few physical advantages over fellow swimmers. Simply put, Phelps has the anthropometrics of the perfect swimmer. From head to toe, his body type and proportions are uniquely suited for swimming with both speed and endurance. Phelps Is Tall With a Huge Wingspan First, hes tall, but not too tall. At 6 4 Phelps probably would be about average for a professional basketball player, but as a swimmer, his height (or more accurately, his length) gives him enough glide in the water to provide a little extra forward momentum. Next, his arm span (or wingspan as some call it) of 6 7 is exceptionally wide even for a man of his height. His arms act almost like oars on a rowboat, giving him incredible pulling power in the water. His wingspan is a big reason for Phelps success with the butterfly stroke, which relies heavily on the upper arms and back to push and pull a swimmer through the water. Then theres his unusually long upper body, roughly the length one would expect to see on a man who is 6 8 tall. His long, thin and triangle-shaped torso helps him with his reach, especially on strokes like the butterfly and the freestyle. His torso is more hydrodynamic than the average swimmers, meaning its able to move through the water with less drag. But Phelps Short Legs Are Perfect Too Phelps lower half is hydrodynamic too. But while his arms give him an advantage by being longer, his legs give him an extra kick (literally) by being a little shorter than one would expect for a guy of his size. Phelps legs, which are roughly those of a man about 6 tall, help with kicks and give him more power in turns at the wall, where crucial seconds can be lost or won during competitions. We havent even factored in Phelps enormous hands and flipper-like size 14 feet. Both let him push and pull more water than other swimmers, adding to his overall speed.à Phelps Body Is Double-Jointed If all that isnt enough, Phelps also is double-jointed. He doesnt have extra joints as the term implies, but his joints have more mobility than average. Most swimmers - and some dancers- work hard to stretch their joints to make themselves more agile, which in turn makes performance easier. With his more flexible joints, Phelps can whip his arms, legs, and feet through a greater range of motion than most swimmers. Phelps Produces Less Lactic Acid But Phelps unique build isnt his only advantage in competitive swimming. Most athletes need recovery time after exerting themselves because the body produces lactic acid, causing muscle fatigue. Phelps body produces less lactic acid than the average person, so he has a much faster recovery time. In the Olympics, being able to bounce back quickly and compete again are distinct advantages for any athlete. When you add up all the parts, its easy to see what makes Phelps the perfect swimmer. Its amazing to consider that someone so well-built for the sport managed to find his way into swimming, but not at all surprising that Phelps was as good as he was. sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-39079207065631208162020-02-18T16:42:00.001-08:002020-02-18T16:42:03.050-08:00TOBACCO COMPANIES AND PRODUCT SAFETY AssignmentTOBACCO COMPANIES AND PRODUCT SAFETY - Assignment Example Thus it is very important to set a strict code of business or marketing ethics for every company in order to avoid the existence of unethical behavior within the business operations. This is also applicable in the selling of the products or services involving the behavior of the salesman (Carroll and Buchholtz, 2009). Deregulation within various industries has raised the scope of committing unethical activities which in turn have resulted in intense competition between all the companies within the industry. It is the competitive pressure mixed with the uncertainty in the existence which has resulted in compromising with the business ethics by the organizations (Barnett, 2007). There are a large number of evidences claiming that many organizations have violated the ethical rules and regulations within last few years. As the buyers cannot identify or evaluate the purchasing variables or purchasing criteria, it results in giving possible chances for the markets to conduct various unethi cal activities at an increasing rate (Carroll and Shabana, 2010). Because of the unethical activities the organizations seek to achieve short term profits but in a broader aspect it negatively impacts the image, goodwill or reputation of the organization. The organizations that were suspected of performing various unethical activities had also to suffer from the legal terms. The businesses generally perform these sorts of unethical activities for achieving their short term goals or objectives, but there are evidences which claim that it declines their reputation in each and every sphere. The unethical activities might be conducted by the marketers in different manner. They might be providing misleading information to the customers in order to persuade them in their purchasing decisions (Curwen and Whalley, 2005). Another example of performance of unethical activities includes charging higher prices for lower quality of products or services. Thus it can be said that one organization conducts its business performance by unethical means in order to achieve short term profits and they face the consequences hampering their reputation in the latter part (Friedman, 2004). The case study deals with the unethical activities conducted by the tobacco producing companies in United States. It represents how the companies neglected the standards set by the department of justice i.e. DOJ in United States. According to the district judge, if DOJ could prove that the big tobacco producing companies are performing deceptive activities for their short term profit seeking purpose, then they would be penalized strictly and have to pay a heavy amount of money. This paper would be highlighting the moral or ethical issues related to the selling of products or services in the market. The responsibilities or duties of an organization towards its organization are very significant. Theories or literatures would be reviewed for strengthening the entire arguments made in this paper. The pa per would be finding the key issues that might be taken into consideration while solving the case study. It would be starting with an introduction about the duties and responsibilities of an organization towards its consumers. Duties of the Companies There is a big procedure involved in the offering of products or services to the consumers. An organization has to handle a large number of duties for dealing with sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-59188042638431946202020-02-03T22:40:00.001-08:002020-02-03T22:40:03.582-08:00Complementary Therapeutic Nursing Interventions CourseworkComplementary Therapeutic Nursing Interventions - Coursework Example The paper tells that the evidence presented in the research report supports the conclusion that accounting of Medical Administering Errors (MAEs) ought to be anonymous in addition to being without unhelpful consequences. Both the reviewed literature and the results highlighted that MAEs are a problem in many hospitals. The results of the study confirmed the existence of the problem as 66.9 percent of the nursing professionals who took part in the study reported experiencing Medical Administering Errors (Lin & Ma, 2009). The research was performed out of the need to improve the quality of health that had been on the decline in Taiwan due to MAEs. In view of this, the results of this study indicated that 87.7 percent of nurses were willing to report MAEs. Hence, the real problem was not underreporting of MAEs but the complexity that come with reporting MAEs such as negative consequences and lack of anonymity. Other evidence presented in the research support the conclusion that negative consequences promote underreporting of MAEs. For instance, the results of the study showed that the odds of eagerness to report Medical Administering Errors improved 2.66 times in privately run rest homes (p = 0.032,confidence interval = 1.09-6.49), and 3.28 in charity hospitals (p = 0.00, confidence interval = 1.73 to 6.21) as contrasted to community hospitals. The explanation of this observation is that privately run and charitable hospitals encompass more flexible as well as receptive organizational environments than community hospitals. ... Other evidence presented in the research support the conclusion that negative consequences promote underreporting of MAEs. The explanation of this observation is that privately run and charitable hospitals encompass more flexible as well as receptive organizational environments than community hospitals. Hence, nurses working in these hospitals tend to report MAEs more. Another explanation could be that community hospitals may perhaps make nursing professionals very perceptive of hospital targets toward quality enhancement. As a result, nurses may occasionally have chosen not to account for medical administering errors events, to evade being answerable f or a letdown to accomplish the goal. Ethical Issues that may have arisen while conducting the research One of the ethical issues that could have arisen in this study is consent to take part in the study. In longitudinal studies, informed consent must be obtained at several stages of the research. In the case of Lin and Ma (2009), ethical consent was only required before filling the questionnaires. This type of consent is known as initial consent. Depending on the ethical issues involved in a study other informed consent such as, continuing consent, consent to find respondent in case of a follow up study, consent for unforeseen analysis and activities and consent for transition among others. This is not going to slow down, so the need for tools of success is arising. At the same time we are moving away from the Morris and Kuratko (2002) belief that entrepreneurs are born, not made. That is why the wanting, believing, hoping, planning must be followed by doing. As already Confucius said: When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, dont adjust the goals, adjust the action steps. It is time for action and one form of it that suits different businesses nowadays is corporate entrepreneurship (CE). Stated by Sharma and Chrisman (1999), corporate entrepreneurship is the process whereby an individual or group of individuals, in association with an existing organization, create a new organization or instigate renewal or innovation within that organization. There are lots of definitions for CE nowadays, but all of them do not change the fact that CE is a tool for differentiation and competitive advantage in todays economy. Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) and Human Resource Management (HRM) A lot of researches, studies were conducted in order to discover the inevitable truth that CE positively affects the performance of a company: it creates competitive advantages, helps to differentiate, adapt to new or quickly changing markets, and deal with external and internal challenges. As CE is seen as a multifaceted tool, the intensity of CE in an organization can be described by five different dimensions identified in a meta-analysis by Saly (2001): innovativeness, risk propensity, proactiveness, corporate venturing and self-renewal. When creating an organizational structure, as well as inside culture, these dimensions should be a scale measuring the future success of a company. Dealing with the globalization and fast moving changes, a company must take risks, be proactive and strive for innovation. Nurturing these traits, adapting to the environment (self-renewal) and fostering creation of something valuable that generates returns are CE key success factors in the economy of today. Of course no CE can be fostered without Human Capital. In order to become an innovative, entrepreneurial organization need the knowledge, skills, experience the human capital can provide. This is why HC should be one of the most important and valuable asset for every organization. Investing in HC will be a first step towards building and encouraging the entrepreneurial direction of the overall company. As from the employee-organization relations (EOR) literature (Rhoades and Eisenberger, 2002), the strongest influencers of employee affect are the organizations leaders. Their HRM practices can valuably contribute to effective enhancement of CE. Different HRM techniques can create a suitable inside culture for an organization to become innovative, flexible and more entrepreneurial. Therefore EOR strengthened with HRM practice can become an efficient tool for creating a collective entrepreneurial atmosphere inside any organization. HRM practices fostering CE inside the company HRM practices should be an important driver of CE because it involves organizational learning driven by collaboration, creativity, and individual commitment (Kaya, 2006). To foster CE in a company the first task is the internal culture and environment. Following different studies conducted on the topic of CE and HRM practices, how to establish a suitable internal environment for intrapreneurship seems to be based on these organizational arrangements/managerial tools: Staff selection the objective of staff selection is to form an appropriate resource base of human capital to foster entrepreneurial activity. As the human capital of any company is one of the most important facilitators of CE, selective hiring can be a tool for influencing the CE level. The selection criteria should fit the organizations culture, be in line with the CE dimensions and reflect the needs of the company. During the process of selecting staff it is beneficial to think about the skills are needed in the industry the company operates, how the employees could work together and create a brain trust. Emphasizing the team spirit is very important, because the emphasis on collective entrepreneurship is growing. New members should have new ideas and complement the staff by being different and experts of their own sphere. New management staff should have relevant KSAOs, be creative, strive for action and be supportive. Finally, a possibility to grow in ones own career should also be seen during this process, because it will serve as a motivation tool and foster better environment in the company. Management support the positive attitude as well as encouragement of the higher hierarchy levels of the company for generating and developing new business ideas. Management support is important because it indicates the willingness of the managers to facilitate, promote and institutionalize the entrepreneurial spirit and activity within the organizations system and processes (Hornsby at al., 2002) which would encourage the intrapreneurs to engage in innovative projects. If the organization provides support and some autonomy it can then count on the commitment coming from employees. Still coordinating the use of resources, contributing to the fulfillment of the separate individual suggestions or efforts will end up with an increase of overall efficiency. Management support for problem solving and conflict resolution in the intrapreneurship process is required in the idea generation, development, and particularly implementation (execution) stages of the ideas (Damanpour, 1991). This will positively influence a corporations entrepreneurial behavior and enhance potential intrapreneurs perceived trustworthiness to their corporations in terms of detecting opportunities and willingness to develop novel or useful ideas and or projects and to take risks to actualize them (Stevenson and Jarillo, 1990). Internal supportive environment, tolerance for risk taking to their intrapreneurs, and a high quality HC will contribute to the innovative performance. As an example could be taken the companys 3M approach this company understood and experienced that capable and motivated employees can turn the company into a profitable innovative and successful organization. That is why the management was trying to create an environment that supports individual entrepreneurship: a climate that stimulates ordinary people to produce extraordinary performances. Allocation of free time provision of sufficient time to work on developing novelties without any burden of routine workload. Delivery of free time inevitably encourages employees to take risks for putting their novel ideas into practice. When given time for convincing the management level about your project success, employees are not so distracted from their main duties and usually show more commitment towards the company. Organizational structure should be convenient concerning decentralization level or decision-making autonomy. Employees should have the opportunity to express and suggest their ideas easily. The suitable decentralization level differs among every company, but it is a tool to become more flexible, innovative, and active suit the dimensions of CE. If organization provides autonomy for employees who actually carry out the work, this will stimulate their commitment to act in the best way for the company. Having a balanced relationship between autonomy and discipline creates an environment where employees can act, take weighted risks and innovate towards successful outcomes of the company. Companies that are becoming rigid really slow down all the innovative processes as well as cannot implement all of the possibleWindows User2010-12-28T20:09:00 Case example improvements. When thinking about new ventures, projects in order to boost the competitive advantage and profitability of the company it is important they fit the organization in terms of context and organizational structure. There is a possibility to foster integrated or separate CE. Taking the example of the company Polaroid, one can see that the impact of bureaucracy, biases and downsizing was a big obstacle for nurturing inside entrepreneurship. The company was big-sized and stagnant, becoming a market follower. In such cases, when an organization becomes rigid, does not answer market needs mostly because of the compilation, slow processes CE must be fostered and implemented. One of the first steps should be an entrepreneurial-oriented structure that allocates the power of decision making not to the higher level employers, but takes into account the employees who know the most about the projects being undertaken. In the case of Lucent (a telecommunication equipment manufacturer), their New Venture Group formed a separate organizational entity. In this way it does not suffer from the bureaucratic rules of the parent company, still can use the support needed, creates its own inside environment and culture that can foster CE more easily. That is why, when forming new entrepreneurial project each company has to evaluate its fit in the organization. Usually small projects are of better use inside the company: they can be accessible for all employees, motivate them to work on their projects too, but at the same time not to be too distracted from the mainstream of the company. An example of such an approach would be the case of the company Ohio Bell. Windows User2010-12-30T10:39:00 Patikrinti Incentives and rewards availability of a performance based reward system encouraging innovativeness is a way to foster entrepreneurship among employees. If the management tries to convince the employees to act like intrapreneurs, it must also be willing to pay them as entrepreneurs (Thornberry, 2003). Having trust in the rewarding system boosts the employee commitment, willingness to take risks and reveal the projects that could benefit both sides. A reward system that is based on achievements in innovation projects, may lead the brightest and most ambitious players to avoid innovation projects with uncertain outcomes. Building a reward system shows a positive attitude towards the employees and can significantly increase their motivation to benefit the organization. It is important to see the reward practices as a long-term thing, make resources available and not punish the employees straight after the first failure of an entrepreneurial project. Failure or errors tolerance in case of creative undertakings or risky project implementations. Such showed tolerance together with managerial support is a strong tool creating positive environment for CE. A conservative managerial attitude will block the willingness to innovate and cause lack of confidence of the employees. In order to overcome the possible frustration, organization should support the human capital even during failures and continue investing in the projects that have high potential. Taking failures as an inevitable step towards success will help to maintain the level of confidence for further innovations and profitable ideas. Of course, in order not to lose control and take healthy risks, companys should build an organizational mechanism to decide which innovation projects are likely to bear fruits and which should be cast aside without having trial-errors. Windows User2010-12-28T20:52:00 Case example For example, a well known company 3M implemented a more disciplined approach to defining, selecting and funding projects. Instead of running 100 of them as earlier, the process shifted to 12 projects from which 10 are expected to be successful. In this way companies are more oriented, quickly reacting and can create true competitive advantages through expedient CE. Training and development appropriate abilities can be acquired through training and development strongest results towards boosting CE. Training can overcome the factors that decrease employees job performance and satisfaction. Staff development seen as activities that increase employees qualifications and performance at all hierarchical levels through education, career management, and work structure. All these practices can promote entrepreneurial behavior and improve the environment in the company.Windows User2010-12-28T21:53:00 Case example Training programs should be oriented towards building useful CE skills, fostering the dimensions of it inside the company: change acceptance, willingness to take risks, assume responsibility, and the value of teamwork and shared achievements. Training activities that enforce interpersonal skills should be fostered. Also training that supports creativity will strengthen innovativeness and potentially strengthen self-renewal and new business development. Finally training on how to transfer new ideas into business will lead to higher intensity for risk propensity and proactiveness. For effective training, programs should fit the companys strategy and work process. To unfold their full effect on CE, expert knowledge, social competence, creativity, and methodical expertise are especially important to be considered. Specialist assignment specialists can anticipate and estimate specific problems earlier and thus identify needs for modifications more quickly. As CE is more often seen as a collective process, instead of putting the emphasis on one individual, firms must encourage cooperation among specialists to increase successful innovation processes. This is stressed because as environment impacts on organizational behaviors it is also seen in change of relationships between employees and employer or managers inside the organization. In order to become competitive and innovative, firms have to adopt new strategies, as well as different employee-organization relationship (EOR) patterns. The importance of this is significantly growing, because corporate entrepreneurship involves not only product innovation, risk taking or proactive responses to environmental forces, but also organizational learning, driven by collaboration and commitment. Here the collaboration of specialists could be seen as a link between employees, managers and their potential to foster corporate entrepreneurship together. As it can be observed in the Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG (SNI), a company that confronted financial and inside environment problems with a program called Change Agent Program, managerial support, concentrated staff selection and employee training and development are the tools that foster corporate entrepreneurship spirit and help to overcome the downturn a company can experience. The Change Agent program looked to replace Siemens Nixdorfs rigid corporate hierarchy with a more flexible and entrepreneurial attitude that would be more responsive to market demands. The company operated in a very competitive European market, was undermanaged and over consulted. As the employees at SNI experienced restructuring at the company during the early 1990s and four years of losses, the inside culture was far away from a company one could call innovative and lead thinking (as the ones operating in IT industry in US). The program though was focused on employees, emphasizing the importance of the people at the company and expanding the opportunities open to them. The goal of the 13 week program was to build an understanding of business fundamentals and business change along three dimensions: customer, competitiveness and culture. It combined presentations, discussions, workshops, case studies, best practice site visits, internships, and coach research. An important goal was to provide participants with new perspectives about their projects and give them the know-how to implement them upon return to the company. The programs aimed to have the sponsors (each member had two of them) provide leadership, guidance and support in order to help them achieve their project goals. This is also an example that specialists assistance is a tool fostering corporate entrepreneurship and improving the employees input. It was also aiming to help find innovative ways to approach and implement their projects. Each participant of the program had a project drawn from the area that concludes the most important challenges the company faces which were fostered by the program and implemented upon the employees return to SNI. Although the 21 Change Agents had varying degrees of success, it was clear that they played a role in driving SNI to profitability in the 1994 1995 fiscal year (for the first time in the companys history). That was reflected in the decision by the SNI Executive Board to perpetuate the Program on an annual basis. Such training and development programs foster collective and individual entrepreneurship inside the company. This example shows how important it is that such tools would fit the aim and strategy of the whole company. By addressing the right problems, training the right people (at SNI they were thoroughly selected) this training program helped the company to enhance the communication within the company, improve its international operations, flexibility and determine new possible directions. The employees felt the more entrepreneurial spirit of the companys culture and were able to channel their enthusiasm for changes and revitalization, feel more responsibility, and support what opened the ways for their projects. Conclusions Trends in the global economy require established companies to become more and more entrepreneurial in order to handle uncertainty and environmental dynamism. The studies provide positive relationships between HRM practices and CE. HR practices are a source of sustained competitive advantage for organizations. CE-related HR practices are unique to the extent that competitors cannot imitate them. There must be support from HR practices consistent with that particular culture and consistent with what is needed from employees. The key factor is determining what is needed from employees to be effective at CE. Once this is determined, the firm can describe the specific HR practices the organization needs to use. Conclusions: HRM practices play a significant role in fostering and maintaining high levels of CE. Companies should focus on the HRM practices of staff selection, staff development and training, and staff rewards that align employee motivation and entrepreneurial firm development. Support, tolerance, and reward are found to be related to innovativeness, while work discretion and time allocation are not. Considering the combined effects of all the OS factors, managerial support and tolerance for risk taking have still exerted significant effects on innovativeness. That is why firms should invest to build such an organizational milieu where first, support and tolerance exist to a large extent. On the other side, organizations firstly should spend less time and money on rewards and empowerment, and more on recruiting and training managers to be supportive and hold a philosophy that failure is a stepping-stone to success. sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-59689136858393446772020-01-18T15:28:00.001-08:002020-01-18T15:28:03.161-08:00The Influence of Michael Jordan in the World of SportsWhen someone says the name Michael Jordan, the first thing that might come to mind is basketball, Nike shoes, or Wheaties. Through the years Michael Jordan has proved time and time again that he is the greatest basketball player ever and by doing that he has gained tremendous popularity throughout the world. People of all ages and from all nationalities have gathered to watch him play. ââ¬Å"Even your Aunt Matilda, who might not know anything about basketball, liked watching him play,â⬠said Daniel. He has become more than just an entertainer, he is a hero and a role model. It has been said ââ¬Å"Heâ⬠s the most famous American in the Worldâ⬠(Daniel.) After winning his sixth National Basketball Association Championship, Michael Jordan has decided to walk away from the world of basketball for the second time in his life. Why would the greatest player to ever play the game leave at the highest point of his career? He claims the sport is no longer a challenge to him. After his many awards, trophies and titles this is not hard to comprehend. At this time in his life, Jordan wants to devote all of his time to his friends and family. Now that he has left the world of basketball a great void has been left. Many questions have rose as to what is going to happen now that heâ⬠s gone. What will happen with the NBA? What will happen to the Chicago Bulls dynasty? Who will be the next Michael Jordan? Could there ever be another Michael Jordan? The first thing any sane person would ask is how could Jordan leave basketball and walk away from all of that money? Last year he was the highest paid basketball player in NBA history. But in dollar terms, Jordan was even more successful as a corporate spokesman, which earned him $45 million in 1998, than he was on the basketball court in which he earned $35 million. (Peyser.) Jordan currently does endorsements for thirteen companies. Out of all the companies, Nike pays the most for his endorsements at $16 million per year. Jordan is by far the best endorser out there in the market. Many of the celebrities canâ⬠t compare to Jordan. ââ¬Å"Heâ⬠s handsome, articulate, classy. He had purity to his performance on court and off. Itâ⬠s hard to find the perfect celebrity these days,â⬠said Peyser. With such slogans as ââ¬Å"Be Like Mikeâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Itâ⬠s gotta be the shoes,â⬠companies have attempted to make consumers believe that if they buy their products they too can be as great as Michael Jordan. Now that Jordan has left the NBA, many are speculating on how well his endorsements will do. Experts say that a retired athlete ââ¬â even Jordan ââ¬â canâ⬠t compete with a guy whoâ⬠s still winning championships. With the sports-marketing business already in a slump, there may be no heirs to ââ¬Å"Air Jordanâ⬠(Peyser.) Even though Jordan has left the basketball court, heâ⬠s not going to leave Hollywood anytime soon. There are plans being made to have Jordan star in at least two films but this time he will be acting with a real cast as apposed to the cartoon cast he starred with in Space Jam. ââ¬Å"He should play a character like James Bond,â⬠suggests movie critic Gene Siskel, a rabid Bulls fan. ââ¬Å"Iâ⬠d pay to see him before Pierce Brosnan any day, wouldnâ⬠t you?â⬠Michael Jordan has made a huge impact on the NBA. ââ¬Å"He has won six NBA championships in the last eight years, ten scoring titles, enough Most Valuable Player awards to stock his own wing at the Hall of Fame,â⬠said Tresniowski. He is by far the greatest player to ever play the game. Many believe the NBA would not be where it is without him and now that heâ⬠s gone many canâ⬠t imagine basketball without him. Everyone is wondering, if there ever be another Michael Jordan. The chance of someone accomplishing the same great feats as Jordan is nearly impossible in todayâ⬠s NBA. But that doesnâ⬠t mean it wonâ⬠t happen. When Julius Erving left the league many people were asking the same questions. Will there ever be another Dr. J.? Jordan came along, and the rest is history. Ever since the baseball strike the NBA has tremendously gained in popularity, at one time many Americans where questioning, should basketball be the nationâ⬠s new past time? Lately, this attitude towards baseball has changed. Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa have brought the life back to baseball with the breaking of the home run record. With the NBA labor lockout that has canceled most of this season and now that Jordan has left the future of the NBA is yet to be determined. The outlook doesnâ⬠t look good. With fear of a season cancellation due to bickering over money, many fans have turned away from NBA basketball in disgust. The NBAâ⬠s image has become tarnished. Todayâ⬠s NBA is nothing like how it was when Jordan came into the league. There is a new breed of players out there. Instead of the rising stars attending college, they are making the jump from high school straight to the NBA. Kobe Bryant is a prime example of this. The major difference between the stars of today and the superstars of yesterday is that many of todayâ⬠s stars donâ⬠t even earn the right to be called stars. Glenn Robinson, now of the Milwaukee Bucks, was asking for a $100 million contract when he came out of Purdue, yet today he is barely worth $1 million. ââ¬Å"You donâ⬠t ever want to say ââ¬Ëneverâ⬠,â⬠Starr says, ââ¬Å"but I donâ⬠t think the NBA will ever again attain the glory it did with Michael.â⬠Even though Jordan was great, we cannot forget about his supporting cast. Without the team to back him up, Jordan would not have been able to accomplish half of what he has done. The Chicago Bulls have been labeled the Team of the 90â⬠³s. No other team since the Boston Celtics has been able to win more than three championships in a row, but the Bulls have done it twice in the past eight years. They probably could have been champions for at least two more years if the team would have stayed healthy and intact. By far, the Chicago Bulls have been hit the hardest with Jordanâ⬠s Retirement. The cause of the breakup of possibly the greatest team ever was rumored to be caused by clashes between the players and Bulls management. The breakup started when management wouldnâ⬠t pay Phil Jackson what he deserved after bringing six NBA championships to the Bulls. Rather than coach another team, Jackson decided to retire to practice Zen Buddhism fulltime. When Jackson left, Jordan said he wouldnâ⬠t play for a new coach. After Jordan left, basketball great, Scottie Pippen was traded to the Houston Rockets. Only four players of last yearâ⬠s team still remain on the Chicago Bulls roster for this season. Many have made the prediction that the Bulls will lose more games in this shortened season than they did all last year (Stein.) Rebuilding the Chicago Bulls may turn out to be one of the biggest mistakes ever made by the Bulls organization. There will no longer be sell-out crowds every night, sales from Chicago Bulls merchandise will take a nose dive, and all the Fair Weather Fansâ⬠will move on to another team. It could take years and millions of dollars before the Bulls will even be able to compete for another title. Many wonder if Jordan will come back to the NBA, after all he did come back before. In 1993, after winning his first three championships, Jordan announced his retirement. He felt he had nothing left to prove and he wanted to try his luck in major league baseball. When his short-lived career in the minor leagues didnâ⬠t work out he decided to return to the NBA, (Greene.) While, competition is what Jordan thrives on. It has had both a positive and a negative effect on his life. Jordan being the very competitive person that he is, got in trouble when he was rumored to have a gambling addiction. Many feared that he might have been gambling on NBA games. However, all allegations of illegally betting on NBA games were false and with time Jordanâ⬠s image was rebuilt, (Greene.) The chances of Jordan coming back to the NBA are very good. However, if he comes back it wonâ⬠t be as a player, his new role would be coach. This time he doesnâ⬠t have a team to come back to. He is certainly not going to come back to the Bulls and wait for them to rebuild. Jordan will probably always be remembered as the greatest. It will be a long time before anyone can accomplish half of what he has done. As far as the current NBA cast, the experts canâ⬠t see anyone replacing him for a long time. Not only does it take the skills but it also requires a certain set of values to become a role model. Many stars of the NBA lack both of these qualities. But somewhere out there is a young child with dreams of becoming the next Michael Jordan. He is on every playground all around the world. He has the endless desire to make something out of himself. Basketball could be his only chance out of the current situation that he is in, and it is only a matter of time before he will have his big break, (Starr.) Some might think itâ⬠s hard to imagine the effects that one man can have on the game of basketball, but when you look at our society and how much we tend to focus on athletes in the sports world itâ⬠s really not that hard at all. Michael Jordan played more than the role of a basketball player. He was a hero, a product endorser, and a corner stone in a major corporation, and to the teams that he beat night after night, an enemy. Now that he is gone from the game no one really knows what will happen all anyone can do is speculate. Even though he has left the basketball court, chances are he wonâ⬠t be leaving your TV quite that soon. The people that will miss him the most are his former teammates and the die-hard fans that loved to watch him night after night. The Chicago Bulls may never reach the greatness that they once achieved but they will always have the memories. Itâ⬠s hard to tell who will take Jordanâ⬠s place, it could be safe to say that no one will ever be able to, but that doesnâ⬠t mean there wonâ⬠t be anyone better than Jordan. Only time will tell. The die-hard Chicago Bulls fans will always hold a special place in their heart for Michael Jordan. They will tell their sons and daughters about him, they will get out the old VHS tapes of games that they have recorded and they will pass along the Basketball cards that will be worth hundreds of dollars. Those of us who have seen him play will always remember him and what he has done for the game of basketball. For those who havenâ⬠t, you will have to settle for the endless highlight reels and Nike commercials to keep his memory alive. sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-13483398670894456122020-01-10T11:52:00.001-08:002020-01-10T11:52:03.633-08:00Human development EssayLife starts at conception. Immediately fertilization takes place changes and events occur that will determine the kind of person to be born. This research tries to find out the effect of early life on the later life of an individual. And if early life affects the later life of the individual, then do children who grow up in violent communities have a tendency to exhibit violent behaviors as adults? The research will apply the cross-sectional design. People who differ in age are studied at the same time. A comparison of age related changes and the social behavior is done. A hypothesis is put forward and a cross-sectional experiment is done to test it. One advantage of this design is that one can collect data from different ages of children over a short period of time. Stages of human development After fertilization takes place, the zygote is formed. The zygote undergoes cell division some hours after it is formed. It takes one week to reach the uterus. In the uterus there occurs implantation. The zygote makes connection to the blood vessels. This process takes about one week(Brian & Scott, 2005). After the zygote completely implant into the uterus, it becomes the embryo. This stage occurs between the 3rd week and the 9th week. During this stage the human body structure start to develop. The internal organs also start developing. The embryo consist of three layers: the ectoderm, the outer layer; the endoderm, the middle layer and the endoderm, inner layer. The ectoderm develops into the skin and hair; the mesoderm develops into bones , cartilages and the cardiovascular system ; the third layer develops into the internal organs . The heart start beating after four weeks. By 8 most body organs can be seen in although not well developed. Brian and Scott, 2005 ). The embryo rest in the amniotic sac which contains amniotic fluid. This fluid protects it. The embryo is connected to the mother via the placenta and the umbilical cord. The development of the embryo follows two principles: the cephalocaudal i. e it develops from head towards the legs and the proximodistal ââ¬â the parts near the centre of the body develops first e. g the arm develops before the hands (Lichtenberg & Norton,1970). The third stage is the Fetus stage. This stars from the ninth week. At this stage, most body organs start to work. There is remarkable increase weight. During this period, the body systems like the respiratory system develop. The fetus can move and play in the uterus. It can hear the heart motherââ¬â¢s hear beat and the mother speak. It can detect flavor. The fetusââ¬â¢s senses are developed. The sensory influence can have a lifetime effect on the fetus. A research done by deCasper and Spence( cited in Lorraine ) shows that the last few months of prenatal developments can shape the life of the newborn infant. It can have either positive or negative effect on the infant. For instance extreme stress in the mother can have several effects: First, the stress tigress the production of hormones which reduces the level of oxygen consumption of the fetus. Second, stress may affect eating habits of the mother thus affecting the fetus in turn. Third, it may cause the mother not to take onto account resting, exercising and may influence her to drink. All these have negative effect on the fetus (Joseph , & Sandraw,1994). The motherââ¬â¢s age. The motherââ¬â¢s age seems to have an effect on the newborn baby. For instance teenage mothers mothers are likely to have problems during pregnancy and during birth. This is because they may not have the resources and skills to give them a good prenatal care. Again children born by teenage mothers may have problems. However a study ( Leavitt, 1993) revealed that it is the environmental and economic background that affect the child and not necessarily the age of the mother. Also the prenatal care given to the mother determines the behavior of the child. Nevertheless, older women, over 35 years experience more problems during pregnancy than younger women. They also record higher rates of miscarriage and Down ââ¬â¢s syndrome (Cited in Nelson). In general, for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby, the age of the mother should be between 20 to 35 years. Teratogens. : Drugs, deseases and environmental harzards. Teratotegen is anything that affect a pregnancy. Some teratogens are: Drugs: Many drugs consumed by pregnant women pose great danger to the fetus and the mother. This was discovered after a drug called thalidomide caused women to bear children with malformed body organs. Thalidomide was being used by pregnant women to assist them sleep Other examples of teratogens are alcohol, cocaine, caffeine, nicotine and cigarettes. Joseph & Sandraw, 1994). Diseases: Some diseases do not have any serious effect on the pregnant women. However most viral and bacterial diseases have effect on the pregnancy. The most serious ones are AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis and genital herpes. These may cause low immune system and various disorders in the unborn (Lichtenberg & Norton, 1970). Environmental hazards: The wastes from the industries contain chemicals. These chemicals may be absorbed into the motherââ¬â¢s body in small quantities through breathing and drinks. These cause great damage to the fetus since they are teratogens. Environmental teratogens are more serious because the mother may not be aware that she is taking it. Thus she may not have control over it. (Joseph &Sandraw, 1994). However some teratogens may be avoided especially those found in food as food additives. Freud(1954) suggested that life starts at birth. Most psychoanalysts of his time believed so. They believed that the brain developed at infancy. Winnicot(cited in Freud) did a research which found that the experience of the unborn is very important the infant. It could have emotional implications that could affect the person even as an adult. Winnicott observed children and saw that there very many differences. He noted that problems caused during labor could traumatize the baby who develops a lot of distress. He conclusively said that the experience gained in the womb remain in memory for a lifetime. In the womb, traumatized fetus even develops defensive mechanisms to face the expected trouble. Later research therapists conducted research and were able to conclude that early trauma created a lot of fear for the rest of the life of the infant. The feelings of anxiety, seeing being devoured by ogres, falling into a bottomless bit are as a result of early trauma. An example is given of an infant who was mistakenly exposed to cold in a very cold night (Lorraine). This child always dreamt lying in the refrigerator and this continued even after 30 years. This shows that early trauma caused the infant to expect disaster at any time. However the discovery of the effect of perinatal trauma on the life of an individual helped therapists to treat patients with problems related to early trauma (Freud, 1954). Recent research by perinatal psychologists, neurobiologists, experimental psychologists has shown great connection of fetal trauma to problems experienced later in life. Initially biologists used to think that the fetus had incomplete myelination of neurons and therefore it could not have memories. Research shows that the thinly myelinated nerves of fetus can transmit waves but at a lower rate. Joseph et al.. Thus the experience gained in the womb may make one to be aware of violence, disaster lack faith. With this in mind, parents have started to consider the unborn as part of the member of the family. A father who played a game with a baby and the mother found that the next baby easily learnt the game. These parents tried to avid any experiences that may cause fetal distress (Lichtenberg & Norton,1970). Fourteen independent studies have shown the relationship between antenatal maternal anxiety and emotional distress in the child. Prenatal stages are likely to be affected by antenatal stress. These reports have suggested that maternal distress affect the fetus as evidenced by increased fetal heart rate (FHR). This is done by use of ultrasound and monitoring FHR over long periods of time. Both the experimental and distress ââ¬âinduced study design have been employed to achieve this. For a normal case, at about the 15th week of the pregnancy fetal movements exhibit a certain pattern. As developments progress the fetal movements become dependent on specific heart rate pattern. These patterns finally develop into sleep-wake patterns which characterize stable temporal origination near term. There is a relationship between body movements and FHR accelerations. Fetal behavior is organized in rest ââ¬â activity or sleep- wake cycle (Lichtenberg & Norton, 970). Effect war and social violence Family violence and trauma caused by war are passed through generations. Adults who were exposed to abuse and violence are more likely to show violence to their own offspring. They have difficulty forgetting their past and live normally. War and violence are everywhere in our societies. Many ethnic clashes continue for years and our children are being exposed to their effects. The children are being thought that disputes are being solved by use of violence. This violence is passed from generation to generation. Research and behavioral science has began to confront the problems of children exposed to violence. (Heidi, 2002). Over the last few decades, there has been an increase in the prevalence of domestic violence. Domestic violence has severe effect on families and society in general. Domestic violence can be in the form physical abuse, psychological abuse and sexual abuse. Exposure to violence creates traumatic stress. Traumatic stress can be either short term or long-term. Terr ( cited in Brian & Scott, 20005) describes short term trauma as ââ¬Å"Type Iâ⬠e. g a single event of rape or beating. He described repeated or prolonged trauma as ââ¬Å"Type IIâ⬠. Type II has more serious effects than type I. Individual exposed to this kind of trauma may develop Post Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD makes one to show routine withdrawal and oversensitivity. Many children from domestic violence homes show levels of (PTSD) (Leavitt, 1993). If untreated, the children exhibit violent behaviors, delinquency and other social and psychological problems. Since young child do have the ability to express themselves verbally, the emotional problems developed are behavioral such as lack of sleep, feeding problems, inability to concentrate, withdrawn and physical complaints. The pre-adolescents child may in addition to the above problems show loss of interest in peers, poor self concept violence,, defiant behavior and temper out bursts. Adolescents are likely to fail academically and start abusing drugs. Youth who exhibit violent behaviors can be traced to families experiencing domestic violence. An estimated 20% 30% of dating teenagers abuse or are being abused by their partners mentally, sexually, emotionally or physically. Between 30% and 50 % of adult relationships show the same cycle of violence (Leavitt, 1993) Nelson ( 2000), points out that community violence also has an impact on children who were victimized or who witnessed member of community or family members being victimized get affected. The effect of violence spread to even those children who are not directly affected by violence. Violence tampers with activities of the child which might make the child a better person. Impact of violence on the child depends on the level of development of the child. Early exposure to violence is more detrimental than later exposure( p. 266) In 1995 FBI report it reported that 27% of all violent crime involved domestic violence. All forms of violence affect the childââ¬â¢s mind. One study was done to show the connection between the brain and someoneââ¬â¢s violence. Psychologists observed brain imaging data for a great number of people with violent behaviors. The research focused on specific brain regions. One was the orbital frontal cortex and the amyglada. The results showed that most of the cases, there was absence of normal activity in the orbital and anterior regions. While the shoed normal activity. The two regions will not counteract and this may explain some people are hyper aroused ( Lorraine). sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-5149072429922864162020-01-02T08:16:00.001-08:002020-01-02T08:16:02.792-08:00The Influence Of The American Revolution And The... Neither the United States Constitution, nor the Declaration of Independence, were written in an ideological vacuum. Rather, the ideas expressed by the various philosophers during the century and leading up to the American Revolution had tremendous influence over the Founders of the United States. These ideas came together in the creation of the U.S. constitution, working in tandem to lay the foundation for the way the government should be structured, as well as the core philosophy behind the country. The Enlightenment, also called the Age of Reason, influenced the rest of the world during the late eighteenth century. There were several revolutions taking place at this time, but the American Revolution was at the forefront of them all. Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The Declaration of Independence was far from the only product of Enlightenment philosophers. In addition, the very structure of the United States government was heavily influenced by Jean Jacques Rousseauââ¬â¢s idea of the social contract. In summary, the government has a contract with its people, also known as the general will of the people, in which all voters have a voice in regards to what they think should stay, improve, or be done away with entirely. In his book, The Social Contract, Rousseau also popularized the concept of state governments having control over their affairs from the federal government. Montesquieus concept of a government having three separate branches that each keep the other in check also made its way into the Constitution. The government was to be divided in a way that prevented any one person or group from holding significantly more power over the nation. The first and most prominent amendment of the Constitution is freedom of speech and religion, taken from the Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire, who was most noted for his support of free speech and tolerance. In addition to Americas Founding Fathers, Thomas Paine was another man greatly influenced by Enlightenment ideals, and eagerly published a pamphlet in hopes of spreading support for a revolution. The recent trend of data security and management has been using the cloud computing technique in order to reduce the unnecessary burden of storing the data on local servers and physical devices. The assignment has included different considerations that need to be made while storing the data on cloud computing servers and networks. It also includes some of the technical details and origination of the concept of cloud computing. The different phases of evolution of this technology have been briefed about in this assignment. Project Objective To analyse the importance of cloud computing in the modern era of business To portray the strength of cloud in order to streamline the entire IT processes for making the daily work of business much smoother To demonstrate the data security as well as privacy in businesses across the globe with the help of cloud To recommend different ways by which cloud infrastructure can be renovated for further development in businesses Project Scope The following assignment has majorly focused on the advantages and disadvantages of using cloud computing in different sectors of business. This study has included the details related to different types of computer servers along with their types of applications. The business operations of different companies are likely to be different and henceforth, the requirements of data storage and security have to be managed accordingly. This assignment covers the different topics and details that have enlightened the learner about the areas and parameters that are necessary to consider before choosing a form of data storage and cloud computing server. Introduction The following chapter has discussed different uses and implementations of Cloud Computing in Business domain. It includes different advantages that can be availed by an organisation that uses cloud computing. The different challenges that are faced by the users while using this technology along with major security concerns have also been included. Moreover, the precautions that are to be taken by an organisation or user at every level in order to keep the data and information secure have been talked about in this part of the study. This has included some figures in order to describe the deployment of cloud computing for making business better and convenient for both supplier and user. Conceptual Framework Figure 1: Conceptual Framework (Source: Created by researcher) Definition and Origin of Cloud Computing In a laymans term, cloud computing refers to the usage of a network based on remote servers that are hosted over the Internet. This is used for storing the data over the Internet based server instead of some physical hard drives, personal computers or other devices. According to Rittinghouse and Ransome (2016, p.62), apart from just storing the data, the cloud computing allows the user to manage as well as processing of the data over the Internet itself. Cloud computing can also be termed as a central management or virtually management of software defined pools as well as data center resources. The foundation stone of Cloud Computing was laid in the late 1990s when a minor group of technical experts and executives from and organisation named Compaq Computers plotted the idea for Cloud Computing (Coronel and Morris, 2016, p.129). They believed it to be the future of Internet based business and other operations and transactions. Initially, the technology of using cloud based computing was available only for storing data. However, with the daily advancements being made in the sector of computing and software domain, the usage of cloud computing started for apps, data management, online security and data processing. As stated by Hameed et al. (2016, p.762), the concept of cloud computing started to be adopted by many leading software organizations in the Silicon Valley and soon the companies like IBM, Oracle and even Amazon started to deliver their services related to Cloud Computing. In the modern world, almost every leading company from all various domains and segments are taking the help of cloud computing to operate their business. As per de Bruin and Floridi (2017, p.30), there are many advantages that can be enjoyed by companies that avail the services of Cloud Computing. The major one in the retention of data that is provided by cloud computing. This means that the data is never lost in cloud computing unlike other hardware storage options. Cloud Computing Service and Deployment Models There are three service models of cloud computing. The usage of these service models depend upon the types of operations that are carried out by a user or company. Software as a Service: In this particular service also known as the SaaS, the applications can be access from different devices used by various clients with the help of either a program interface or a web browser, which is also a thin client interface. The underlying cloud infrastructure like storage, servers, networks and operating systems are not controlled or managed by the consumer. However, some limited configuration settings can be done as per the user specific constraints (Tassabehji and Hackney, 2016, p.49). Platform as a Service: This is the capability that is provided to any user to utilise the acquired or consumer created applications onto a cloud infrastructure. Quite similar to the SaaS, this service also known as PaaS, does not lets the cloud computing user to control or manage the network servers, storage facilities and operating systems. The user however can control the configurations settings of deployed applications in case of application hosting environment (Senyo et al. 2016, p.519). Infrastructure as a Service: In the IaaS service of cloud computing, the consumer is able to run as well as deploy arbitrary software. The consumer or user of the services has command to process the storages and networks as well as some resources of fundamental computing. Despite the fact that the users are not able to control or manage the underlying infrastructure of clouds, they can control operating systems and deployed applications along with the host firewall (Sookhak et al. 2017, p.283). Figure 2: Service Models of Cloud (Source: Sookhak et al. 2017, p.285) Very similar to the Cloud Computing Services, there are certain Deployment Models that represent the different variables like environment of cloud, access types, sizes and ownerships. There are four different types of Cloud deployment models depending on their sizes and ownership types. Private Cloud: The Private Cloud infrastructure is usually provided for the use of a single firm that consists of numerous units like Business Units. This cloud computing deployment model can be controlled by a company, third party or even in a combined form. As mentioned by Umair et al. (2016, p.110), private Cloud can exist on and even off premises. Community Cloud: The Community deployment model is used by a particular community of users that belong to different companies with similar challenges and concerns. The concerns can be policies, security requirements and compliance considerations. Stergiou and Psannis (2017, p.520) has stated that this cloud can be administered by a single or multiple companies or even a third party. Public Cloud: The Public Cloud computing deployment model is open for use for general population. Cao et al. (2017, p.56) has opined that the administrative functions of Public Cloud can be managed and controlled by a public business firm or even an academic organisation. This model exists on the cloud providers premises. Hybrid Cloud: The hybrid model of a cloud is usually a combination of any two or more different infrastructures of cloud. According to Scholtz and Atukwase (2016, p.81), the different infrastructures remain as unique entities that are bound together with the usage of proprietary or standardized technology which enables the portability of application and data. Figure 2: Cloud Deployment Models (Source: Scholtz and Atukwase 2016, p.82) Critical Analysis of Strengths and Advantages of Cloud computing in current Business era Due to the increase in data storage needs and requirements, it can be stated that Cloud computing has become an integral part of almost every modern day business. According to Soomro et al. (2016, p.222), cloud computing is being used nowadays from storing of data information to communicating between different stakeholders that are a part of a business. In addition, many other operations like generations of new services as well as products are also developed for the betterment of business so that the profit margins for businessmen can be enhanced along with satisfaction among the customers. Wang et al. (2016, p.376) has stated that proper management of Big Data is nowadays done by the methods of cloud computing. This is because the technology of cloud computing provides many features and options that are very user friendly in terms of database management as well as speed of operations. Following are the three most important areas that can be worked upon via cloud computing to make th e business more convenient and user friendly. Reduction in management of Hard Drives and Data Centers: This feature of Cloud Computing can be stated in terms of ease of doing business from the services supplier point of view. The repair and maintenance of hard drives and locally based servers are very high as the labor costs involved in it are quite expensive. As per Milani and Navimipour (2016, p.89), the cost of server maintenance has increased almost 4 times than what was in 1996. The main reason for this huge escalation in price has been deduced as increased complications in server based technology. Moreover, the reductions in sizes of servers are also considered as a major reason for the escalation in maintenance cost. Deployment of cloud based servers enables the software giant companies like Google, Microsoft, IBM, Facebook and many others to store the data and information without spending too much on the storage and maintenance of their data. Moreover, the space which is needed to keep the server platforms are also reduc ed (Tutorialspoint.com, 2017). This ultimately results into reduction in costs that are involved in storing, maintenance and repair of business data. Efficient handling of Exponential Growth of Data Volumes: In the modern business domain, the daily operations result into the tremendous increase in amount of data that is stored while carrying out data operations. Using of conventional data storage devices causes data redundancy. In addition, Loai et al. (2016, p.6174) has mentioned that there are certain drawbacks regarding usage of hard drives and data server as there is a high risk of data redundancy. In case of cloud computing, there are usually a number of loops that can be implemented to prevent data redundancy. Moreover, this platform provides multiple ways of classification and categorizing of data that is very helpful for putting the useless data inside the trash automatically. In addition, Arpaci (2016, p.155 ) has stated that disk defragmentation no longer needs to be done as the space is automatically arranged and similar types of files are stored in a similar manner. More productive Application Developers: The cloud computing technology helps the developers to develop and deploy the applications in a better and a comparatively faster manner. As per Rittinghouse and Ransome (2016, p.157), the cloud applications that are deployed by developers can also be updated very easily. The prime gainers of this technology have been the mobile users. Applications from every language and domain can be instantly deployed after being developed. With the change in requirements of the users and application, it becomes sometimes very necessary to make some amendments and introduce some updates. This can instantly by sending the notifications regarding the new updates. Arpaci (2016, p.151) has further included to this by adding that the new notifications and features can be installed in the already existing versions application just by updating it. Security concerns and other disadvantages of Cloud Computing along with privacy techniques There are certain things and parameters that a user or an organisation needs to be very careful about using cloud computing. Numerous forms of external attacks and hijackings can be done in case of online servers. Hence, it is very important to keep the operations secure. Following are some of the challenges that can be faced by users while using cloud computing. Hacking of online servers: According to Al-Shargabi and Sabri (2016, p.32), any computer that is connected to internet is prone to online hacking by external threats and security hackers. Hence, it is necessary for the users to have adequate knowledge regarding the possible methods that can be used by hackers to attack the cloud computing servers of any organisation. Distributed Denial of server attacks: This type of attacks can be considered as the most common way of thrashing a server. As mentioned by Milani and Navimipour (2016, p.97), the most vulnerable sites or servers are the online shopping websites that can come under the attack of false bots via DDoS. Chances of Virus and Malware attacks: Every online connected device can potentially get under the attack of virus and malwares that can potentially infect the files and other stored data. As opined by Sookhak et al. (2017, p.280), the malwares and other harmful virus can damage the system including compromising with data security and slow down of systems. Citing the recommendations to renovate cloud infrastructure for business development In order to make proper and gainful use of Cloud Computing technology for business and other purposes, it is very important that the service provider companies as well as the users put in their responsible efforts. The service providers need to ensure that the cloud based platforms are made as convenient for the users. On the other hand, the users must be careful about sharing their server passwords with external users and potential attackers. Moreover, any type of unknown or suspicious notification should not be clicked by a user. The security of servers from external attackers and false bots should be taken care of with the help of specialized companies. The users should also keep their system protection updated and keep the antivirus settings as per the requirements of their systems and servers. Literature Gap The above study does not include the technical details of cloud computing and different variables associated to it. The programming variables and coding languages associated to cloud computing have not been primarily focused on. These components can be very helpful for the students and researchers that are into core computing domain. Moreover, the operations of cloud computing can be understood in a better manner by going through technical details. Conclusion After completing the above study related to cloud computing and its significance in business domain, it can be said that using cloud based server has many advantages over using offline data storage methods. It needs to be noted that the users need to be careful about the process and techniques. However, from the overall perspective, cloud computing is far better than another ways. Entire study will assist in developing a proper idea regarding cloud computing. Advancement in technology has occurred very fast and cloud computing is an example of such technology. Implications of cloud can be considered as a boon for every business house thereby, ensuring proper process of executing business in modern times. See why these Northwestern Wildcats fell in love their campus and love being part of its student body: Allym896 Northwestern ââ¬Ë18 Northwestern University is in an amazing location. You really get the quiet, safer environment immediately around you, as Evanston is a very nice suburb, but youre only an hour away from the great Chicago. Chicago has a great culture, rich in history and arts and activity. There are so many amazing opportunities in Chicago, and so much culture to explore, but you can always, at the end of the day, come back to Evanston and feel safe and at home. Culture at Northwestern is a little intense: everyone is ultra-busy and theres a bit of a competitive edge as to who can be the busiest and who can achieve the most. Support for students is there, but not as forward and encouraging as it could be. Altogether, its an exciting place to be, as students are always active. The arts scene is huge and there are always various shows or performances. SamAtNU Northwestern ââ¬Ë17 There are so many great things about Northwestern, not the least of which is its location. Evanston is a great college town with endless restaurants, bars, stores, entertainment, etc. Having a CVS, Whole Foods, Cinemark, and a Burger King all within walking distance is really great. Chicago is just a 30 min train ride away and has endless things for you to explore. Also NU is situated right on Lake Michigan, which is pretty cool, and the campus is stunning. The culture at Northwestern is a perfect mix of work hard, play hard. Everyone is very serious about studying and most are pretty serious about partying. Whatever you are in to you can find like minded people here and the community is extremely accepting. Areckburg Northwestern ââ¬Ë17 I love Northwestern. We have the perfect location being so close to Chicago. We are close enough to utilize it, without all the hectic of being in the city itself. Our culture is fantastic here too. It is the perfect mix of studying and fun. We work super hard during the week, but then we have fun on the weekends. ssgnay Northwestern ââ¬Ë15 My school has a student body of very high achieving and competitive people. The student body really pushes you to be your best by being surrounded by intelligent, hard working, and creative people every single day. At the same time, Northwestern school has wonderful people who will give you a home away from home, be your best friends and give you a sense of community and family. The school is located near Chicago, so there are many professional opportunities for students during the school year and over the summer to intern with great companies that recruit specifically from northwestern. The city also has a lot of great cultural activities such as museums and shows, a great restaurant scene, lively nightlife, and a great lake that you can enjoy for the beach, boating activities, or views during the summer months. Going to school right outside the city is great, because we have a nice, clean, beautiful campus but are so close to Chicago that all the perks of the city are accessible. RachNU Northwestern ââ¬Ë16 Evanston is incredible. Theres no other way to put it - its one of my favorite places on the planet. You couldnt ask for more in a college town! Theres good shopping, great dining, and complete safety. While people claim town-gown relations could be better, Ive always felt welcome in Evanston. Many businesses provide student discounts, and are eager to partner with student groups for hosting and donating to fundraisers. Of course, the proximity to Chicago is unreal - a free, 40 minute shuttle ride gets you to one of the top US cities. The city provides incredible leisure options, but also has many job opportunities. This term, I work part-time downtown while taking a couple of classes on campus, and have already been offered a job post-graduation. Are you looking to apply to Northwestern? Louis Riel was disappointed with the way the Mtis were, so he took it upon himself to represent the Mtis and their rights. Even though the actions that followed, such as keeping the new governor out the colony, was illegal and very wrong. Riel risked it for the rights of the Mtis. As for Thomas Scott, Riel has absolutely no legal right to have him shot, but Riel himself never touched a gun for that purpose. He had a firing squad shoot Scott. Although, Riel may have ordered the squad to shoot, but the men could have backed down, no matter how powerful Riel seemed. After the rebellion, he was elected by Manitoba to sit in the House of Commons. Riel went to Ottawa but was not allowed to sit as a member in the House, for he was threatened by many to be shot if he appeared in the House. This was the mistake of the government. They should have sopped the nonsense and threats. For ! Riel was a man of ideas. He was a man who was knowledged in the government. It was obvious since he formed his own government. Riel would have been an asset to the Canadian government. In 1884, Gabriel Dumont rode to Montana and asked Riel to defend the Mtis once again. Riel returned to help the natives once more. Riel was risking capture when he returned. This was a very noble act on his part. Instead of staying nice and safe in Montana, Riel gave up his safety for the Mtis. Riel decided to try an unviolent approach this time instead of starting an all out rebellion. Riel and the Mtis drew up a petition and presented it to the government. The petition, which demanded more food and money for the natives, was looked over but not acted upon. The petition was fair in all parts but the government turned it down. It only demanded that what belonged to the natives be returned. In early 1885, Riel formed another pro ... sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-16415157065526326622019-11-22T22:04:00.001-08:002019-11-22T22:04:05.343-08:00Things a Successful School Principal Does DifferentlyThings a Successful School Principal Does Differently Being a principal has its challenges. It is not an easy profession. It is a high-stress job that most people are not equipped to handle. A principalââ¬â¢s job description is broad. They have their hands in virtually everything related to students, teachers, and parents. They are the chief decision-maker in the building. A successful school principal does things differently. As with any other profession, there are those principals who excel at what they do and those who lack the skills necessary to be successful. Most principals are in the middle of that range. The best principals have a particular mindset and a leadership philosophy that allows them to be successful. They utilize a combination of strategies that make themselves and others around them better thus allowing them to be successful. Surround Themselves with Good Teachers Hiring good teachers makes a principalââ¬â¢s job easier in virtually every aspect. Good teachers are solid disciplinarians, they communicate well with parents, and they provide their students with a quality education. Each of these things makes a principalââ¬â¢s job easier. As a principal, you want a building full of teachers that you know are doing their job. You want teachers that are 100% committed to being effective teachers in every aspect. You want teachers who not only do their job well but are willing to go above and beyond the core requirements to ensure that every student is successful. Simply put, surrounding yourself with good teachers makes you look better, makes your job easier, and allows you to manage other aspects of your job. Lead by Example As a principal, you are the leader of the building. Every person in the building is watching how you go about your daily business. Build a reputation for being the hardest worker in your building. You should almost always be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. It is essential that others know how much you love your job. Keep a smile on your face, maintain a positive attitude, and handle adversity with grit and perseverance. Always maintain professionalism. Be respectful to everyone and embrace differences. Be the model for fundamental qualities such as organization, efficiency, and communication. Think Outside the Box Never put limitations on yourself and your teachers. Be resourceful and find creative ways to meet needs when issues arise. Do not be afraid to think outside the box. Encourage your teachers to do the same. Successful school principals are elite problem solvers. Answers do not always come easy.à You have to utilize the resources creatively you have or figure out ways to get new resources to meet your needs. A terrific problem solver never dismisses another personââ¬â¢s idea or suggestion. Instead, they seek out and value input from others cooperatively creating solutions to problems. Work With People As a principal, you have to learn to work with all different types of people. Each person has their own personality, and you must learn to work effectively with each type. The best principals are able to read people well, figure out what motivates them, and strategically plant seeds that will eventually blossom into success. Principals must work with every stakeholder in the community. They should be skilled listeners who value feedback and use it to make recognizable changes. Principals should be on the front lines, working with the stakeholders to improve both their community and school. Delegate Appropriately Being a principal can be overwhelming. This is often amplified as principals by nature are typically control freaks. They have high expectations on how things should be done making it difficult to let others take the lead role. Successful principals are able to get past this because they realize there is value in delegating. First of all, it shifts the burden of responsibility from you, freeing you up to work on other projects. Next, you can strategically make individuals responsible for projects that you know fit their strengths and will help build their confidence. Finally, delegating reduces your overall workload, which in turn keeps your stress level at a minimum. Create and Enforce Proactive Policies Every principal should be an adept policy writer. Each school is different and has their own unique needs in terms of policy. Policy works best when it is written and enforced in such a way that very few want to take the chance to receive the attached consequences. Most principals will spend a large part of their day dealing with student discipline. Policy should be seen as a deterrent to distractions that interrupt learning. Successful principals are proactive in their approach to policy writing and student discipline. They recognize potential problems and address them before they become a significant issue. Look for Long-Term Solutions to Problems A quick fix is seldom the right solution. Long-term solutions require more time and effort in the beginning. However, they typically save you time in the long run, because you wonââ¬â¢t have to deal with it as much in the future. Successful principals think two to three steps ahead. They address the little picture by fixing the large picture. They look beyond the specific circumstance to get to the cause of the problem.à They understand that taking care of the core problem may head off several smaller issues down the road, potentially saving both time and money. Become an Information Hub Principals have to experts in many different areas including content and policy. Successful principals are a wealth of information. They stay up-to-date on the latest educational research, technology, and trends. Principals should at least have a working knowledge of the content being taught in each grade for which they are responsible. They follow educational policy at both the state and locals areas. They keep their teachers informed and are able to offer tips and strategies concerning best classroom practices. Teachers respect principals who understand the content they are teaching. They appreciate when their principal offers well thought out, applicable solutions to problems they may be having in the classroom. Maintain Accessibility As a principal, it is easy to get so busy that you shut your office door to try and get a few things done. This is perfectly acceptable as long as it isnââ¬â¢t done a regular basis. Principals must be accessible to all stakeholders including teachers, staff members, parents, and especially students. Every principal should have an open door policy. Successful principals understand that building and maintaining healthy relationships with everyone you work with is a key component to having an outstanding school. Being in high demand comes with the job. Everyone will come to you when they need something or when there is a problem. Always make yourself available, be a good listener, and most importantly follow through on a solution. Students are the First Priority Successful principals keep students as their number one priority. They never deviate from that path. All expectations and actions are directed to better students both individually and as a whole. Student safety, health, and academic growth are our most fundamental duties. Every decision that is made has to take the impact it will make on a student or group of students into account. We are there to nurture, counsel, discipline, and educate each and every student. As a principal, you must never lose sight of the fact that students should always be our focal point. sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-76522654859364101002019-11-21T03:20:00.001-08:002019-11-21T03:20:04.559-08:00Reward and Performance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 wordsReward and Performance - Essay Example In contrast, survey carried out by Kenneth Kovach depicted that employee's ranked good wages fifth among their top ten job reward factors. Therefore, there appears to be a difference in ideology of what motivates employees (Kovach, 1995). Motivation revels when in an organisation considers all factors affecting performance. (Ruebusch, 2003). These factors include individual needs, nature of the job i.e. degree of job challenge and goal clarity, job design, job security, organisational climate, a sense of personal significance, stability of expectations, recognition, trust, honest communication, dignity and respect, as well as an equitable reward system which will be discussed in great detail in the proposed thesis. The exigency to motivate employees with desirable rewards has hitherto salvaged a significant level of importance; this is because rewards can serve as motivators but could also have negative reactions should that supposed merit falls below employee's expectations. Therefore, this thesis seeks to examine the impact of valued rewards on performance in the banking industry utilizing the expectancy theory and two factor theory of motivation framework, while introducing other factors that influence the activity levels of performance. From my critical research on the literature on motivation, as well as the growing need by managers to find solutions to the question how do they motivate employees, I discovered a few conjectures that need to be addressed and elaborated upon in this dissertation. One aim is to ascertain the impact of valued rewards on individual and organisational performance and its effect on productivity and profitability. Then, conjuring strategies that improvises and sustains performance through the establishment of feedback channels, employee training and a friendly work environment can provide a breeding ground for trust. The examination of other variables besides rewards that affect performance such as the aforementioned job security and recognition among others must be in order so that variables can withstand and make a difference through the test of time. Finally, the determination of what rewards employees consider valuable enough to influence behaviour will allow management to be very sel ective to rewards that can profit the workers. Business organisations still face a lot of difficulties in the area of employee motivation. This poses a dilemma for employees' control of other factors of production in order to achieve goals, greater productivity and higher profits. In order to motivate people you must appeal to their deepest desires (Ruebusch, 2003). Managers should not expect a standard compensation plan or incentive program to have the similar effect on every employee. To procure top performance, compensation plans and incentive programs must be deftly tailored to meet the specific needs of each employee because employees of different ages and generational cohorts have varying needs over time (Jeffords et al, 1997). It has also been observed that extrinsic rewards have effect on employees to work proficiently. Therefore, this study will provide managers within the banking industry with a deeper insight into the needs of today's employees and rein them towards other reward trends which appear to boost employee mo rale and productivity. As highlighted by Herrera (2002), managers need to be concerned of the creation of workplace culture that sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-185441185125569732019-11-19T13:00:00.001-08:002019-11-19T13:00:03.296-08:00The Turnaround at Ford Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsThe Turnaround at Ford - Term Paper Example From this paper it is clear that in the case of Ford, it was tougher because it was faced with two pronged issue, first is the harsh macroeconomic environment wrought by the financial crisis, second is the aggravation of competition that compelled auto companies to streamline their operations to remain competitive. In Fordââ¬â¢s case, their market share declined from 26% in the 1990s to a mere 14.8% in 2007. During the crisis, demand for high ticket items declined of which auto industry were among the worst hit and this resulted to the large-scale labor surplus at Ford because the demand significantly declined. During the precipitous decline of demand, Ford has to cut its production to avoid waste with the same manpower it had when it was operating in full capacity. Also, the decline in demand resulted in decline in sales that could no longer sustain its overheads in manpower.à Ford has decided to pursue employee buyouts and attrition in an attempt to shrink its workforce to mat ch its productivity demands. Why do you think Ford is using these two tactics? Do you think these are the best options for Ford to achieve its goals? Ford has to use this tactics because the demand declined. This is evident with their shrinking market share of a mere 14.8% from a 26% in the 1990s. They just cannot maintain the same overhead cost in terms of manpower when sales is declining. This is evident with their losses of $12.6 billion in 2006 and $2.7 billion in 2007. If they will not cut down their manpower according to the manpower requirement of the demand, loses will continue and it will not be long before Ford will get bankrupt. If that happens, Ford will instead have to let go all of its employees. sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5739390921765546659.post-3536628718372790792019-11-17T01:31:00.001-08:002019-11-17T01:31:03.658-08:00Walking to improve your health Essay Example for Free Walking to improve your health Essay Hi, my name is Peter Dong. He changed his name from Saul to Paul because he wanted to start his life over, follow God, and live for Him. He wanted to start over because he was known as a man who persecuted Christians. Saul did not even notice he was doing wrong until he started to reach Damascus and a voice yelled from the Heavens saying, ââ¬Å"Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?â⬠Saul answered back, ââ¬Å"Who are you, Lord?â⬠then the Lord answered, ââ¬Å"I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. But, rise and enter the city, and you will be told what to do.â⬠For three days Saul was made blind by Jesus and did not eat or drink. Then, Ananias walked into where Saul was staying and restored his sight, something like scales fell off his eyes and he could see. After being in Damascus with the disciples he proclaimed that Jesus is the one true God. Then, he fled to Jerusalem w here he joined the disciples with the help of Barnabas, changed his name to Paul and became a missionary to Christ. He set out on three missionary journeys where on his third, he was put under house arrest in Rome for two years where he wrote the book of Ephesians. After his release, he left, went to Spain, and was eventually persecuted and martyred by Nero. Date and Place of Writing Paul wrote Ephesians when he was in prison in Rome. He was there because Jews attacked him after his third missionary journey, but he was the one that got arrested. The epistle was written to the church in Ephesus, to help them with their unity. Thychicus deliver... ... showed all this and rewarded us so that one day we would be notice his kindness. The Christian is made alive in God and does good works for him. He does this to show his everlasting grace to everyone. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (ESV) In verses 8 and 9 of Ephesians 2, Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for his good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV) In verse 10 of Ephesians 2, Application Ephesians 2:1-10 is basically saying not to over use Godââ¬â¢s grace. The verses say that Godââ¬â¢s grace is a gift and even though every time you sin God gives you grace, you should not over use it. God wants you to good for Him, after all that is what he created you for. sandralarson1981http://www.blogger.com/profile/07462368558017096426noreply@blogger.com0
